Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness. Genesis 1:26
We long for true friendship. Deep within us, there is an incessant yearning to share our lives and inner selves with others. We want someone to talk through the hard things with and laugh over the funny things with. We want someone who knows us well and loves us anyway. We want someone to do things with, even if it means enjoying a moment together in companionable silence.
For all of our culture’s celebration of individuality, we cannot deny that need for togetherness.
Why do we have such a strong desire for open and honest relationships with friends? The answer is in Genesis 1:26. Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness. You are made to reflect a God who lives in eternal togetherness. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit exist as three distinct people enjoying a perfect, never-ending friendship. Because you are created to image this God, you were made for friendship as well.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting daily Scripture about cherishing and cultivating Biblical friendships on my Patreon. Additionally, I’ll share four teaching sessions on the same theme. If you’re interested in joining in, subscribe here.
