Welcome to my new site ya’ll!
I’m extremely excited to finally have this sucker up. And when I say finally, I mean FINALLY.
Sweet readers, I decided last November (!!!) to create a new site and move from Blogger to WordPress. I remember naively saying to a writing pal that I would use December to create the site and launch it in January. In retrospect…..BLAHAHAHAHAHA. Let’s just say I might have been a little unrealistic about my computer skills. 9 weeks and one humbled ego later….it’s up! Tada.
If you aren’t impressed by what you see, fake it. You have no idea, man…
I need to say a huge THANK YOU to Nancy Andrews. See that cute graphic of my name at the top left? She drew that. On an envelope containing a note she mailed me. That was attached to a gift-for-no-reason which just happened to be the cutest casserole dish personalized with gorgeous etching. As in she etched it herself. Some people get all the talent, ya know? And I’m lucky enough to call many of them friends.
The lesson here is, you never know when I might steal your artwork for use on the blog.
Also, my husband took said envelope containing the cute artwork, scanned it, somehow magically erased dirt that was evident on the digital version, cropped out the address, and modified the whole thing to fit the specifications that I needed. I married a genius. A nice one at that.
Not to mention that man has seen mainly the side of my head staring at my computer for the better part of two months as I spent hours working on the new site. I married a keeper.
You might have noticed my posts have been a little sporadic the past two months. As in, I’ve barely written anything. Two reasons why: 1) MY BRAIN HAS BEEN IN OVERLOAD and 2) SO HAVE MY EXPECTATIONS
We’ve already discussed reason #1. I’m not as smart as I thought I was.
As to the #2 reason…
You might remember a little post called The Other Mother. I enjoyed a small taste of success on that one. And after I did, most every time I sat down to type I was attempting to generate greatness.
Here’s the deal on that. I’m all for writing with excellence, and I think it’s important to write content that others are interested in reading. But I began to miss the mark when I started thinking in terms in how “sharable” what I was writing might be.
Besides that, not every swing is a home run.
So after sitting at Chick-fil-a for nigh unto two hours last week while starting and deleting numerous posts, God and I had a powwow.
I told Him how aggravated I was that I didn’t have anything great to write and begged Him to give me something good.
He asked me if I wanted to write because it might make me feel important when others put their stamp of approval on it.
I cringed because sometimes the truth hurts. Then I told Him I was sorry ’bout that and attempted to crawl down off my high horse in order to simply connect with you darling people who for some mind-boggling reason chose to read what I share.
And then I decided to do what I decided to do last April when I started this whole blogging/writing thing. Be Just Beth.
So there you have it, darlings. A new site and a new humility. Thanks for sticking with me as I attempt to figure out who I am in this writing world. You have no idea how much I love you.
I love hearing your thoughts!
